About Us
The authors Ken Sakurai, Richard Mooney and Benjamin Gladwin created CICMWrecks while at Cairns. It’s a great unit, a good distance from regular ICU focused teaching. As such, resources such as Christopher Anderson’s ICU Primary Prep were invaluable in the push through the first hurdle. JC Karthic has been part of the team since 2018.
Over the years, CICMWrecks has been upgraded multiple times to improve the experience and usability for candidates, with major upgrades in 2022 and 2026.
We would like to thank Dr Schuller in Cairns for both his patience and his relentless interrogation on the finer points of physiology and pharmacology. As individuals, the support from our loved ones through this process was, and will always be difficult to repay, and to just say thank you is not enough.
Meet the Team
Ken Sakurai
Ken is a self proclaimed Sci-Fi geek, although he strives to eliminate science fiction from his medical practice.
When he’s not playing ICU Registrar in Australia, he’s usually 35,000 feet somewhere above the pacific, flying to and from his family in Tokyo (but really, trying to accumulate enough cosmic radiation to mutate him into hulk).
Richard Mooney
Richard is our import from the mother country. We’ve been lucky he has decided to come to the colonies to see the sights, drink a proper Australian lager and do a touch of ICU on the side.
When he’s not being highly distinguished, he’s either off road in a 4 wheel drive or on his boat sitting above the Great Barrier Reef, catching a fish or ten with his girl.
Benjamin Gladwin
Ben’s recently repatriated from across the ditch in Wellington where he had the experience of being a joint research and clinical fellow with the team out of Wellington. He has worked in 8 different ICUs across all ICU specialties and can still not make up his mind how he wants to distribute the rest of his career.
He is interested in physiology, mathematics, big data, paediatrics and retrieval and is the PI on the MAGIC study into post-op cardiothoracic surgical vasoplegia. Ben is currently working on the Lifeflight Rescue Helicopter over the beautiful Great Barrier Reef and Daintree rainforest out of Cairns in Queensland.
When he is not trying to calculate the area under a curve or the heart rate variability of someone, he is at home playing with his wife and three kids in their pool.

JC Karthic
JC (Karthic Jayanthi Chinnaiya) is currently working at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney. He has worked in India and Singapore before and is currently an advanced trainee with CICM.
When he is not busy at work, he is spending time with his amazing wife and dog. He also enjoys music and the theatre.
